Welcome to 3D modeling.

This tutorial is design for the absolute beginner.

New Words

  • Axis/Widget , Mesh/Wireframe, Objects/Groups, Vertex/Vertice, Spline, Face/Plane, Backfaces,
  • Polygons/Triangles, Subdivide, Extrude, Joints/Bones, Material, UV Mapping/Texture Map, Rending.

  • Axis/ Widget
When 3D Modeling you are working on a 3 way axis.
Y being up and down. X left and right. Z is the depth.
This maybe different with other model editors.
Here are two different types of Widgets.

    Mesh/Wireframe
It is the lines and dots that make up a 3D Model.

    Objects/Groups
Is one or more 3D models in one scene or layer.
It can also be one model broken down into many parts.

    Vertex/Vertice
Are dots or a dot that connects the lines together. In the image below they are red.

    Spline
Is a string of lines and dots connected end to end, making it look like a rope.

    Face/ Plane
When two trangles are connected together they make a face or plane.

    Backfaces
They are the back side of a face or plane. In different model
editors you may have the option to turn them off and on, like in the images shown below.
